Climate Crisis in the City

 

More than half of the world’s population lives in cities, and that figure will only rise in the years to come. Growth rates are particularly pronounced in the Global South, where 75 percent of the world’s urban population already lives. At the same time, cities provide a particularly striking example of social inequality, which is also reflected in who is most affected by the consequences of climate change, such as rising temperatures and increased flooding.

As our planet gets hotter, the climate crisis is putting pressure on cities around the world. Our latest dossier highlights the impact on marginalized urban populations, and how local communities are responding and resisting.
